The District Attorney's "Fast Track and Monitoring Program"
It is a process that rapidly gets domestic violence offenders to court to be advised, have bond set, and in many cases, enter a guilty plea, and be sentenced. It allows for quicker victim input, victim service and support. The goals of Fast Track are to streamline domestic violence cases from the initial crime report to sentencing in an effort to contain offenders, provide services and support to victims quickly, and to send a message to offenders that our community will not tolerate domestic violence. Our philosophy is to support victims as they follow through with the legal process that was put in motion when law enforcement was first called. We believe that by providing adequate support, victims will make informed, supportive choices about their family relationships, rather than feeling trapped in an abusive relationship or isolated and alone in their lives and decision-making. The monitoring system involves a collaborative effort by the court, treatment agencies, Probation, and the District Attorney's Office in tracking the compliance of all sentenced domestic violence offenders. The monitoring piece of the program tracks the offenders compliance with sentencing and the results of toxicology screens. Experience tells us that offenders are often under the influence of drugs or alcohol at or near the time of the crime. Victim notification is provided at the time law enforcement responds to the scene.
