Our attorneys prosecute hundreds of felonies each year
throughout the 11th Judicial District. Canon City is the largest
city in our Judicial District. Two divisions of Fremont County
District Court hear felonies, which are crimes that carry a potential
prison sentence as compared to misdemeanors that only carry a fine and/or
a county jail sentence. In 2005, 565 criminal cases were filed in
Fremont County District Court. There is one division of
district court in each of Chaffee, Park, and Custer counties.
Many of the felonies are drug-related, which is a reason why
our office has instituted the drug court
program.
Fremont County and Chaffee County are home to numerous
DOC prisons and we actively prosecute cases involving both inmates and
staff.
